BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – In support of Donate Life Month, NASCAR driver Joey Gase will be sporting a prominently displayed Donate Life Alabama logo on the hood of his car when he races in the MoneyLion 300 at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, April 27.
The public is encouraged to attend a signing event, where participants will be able to sign their name to a handprint that will be placed on the hood of the Donate Life Alabama car.
Gase’s mother, Mary, died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in April 2011. Just 18 at the time, Joey made the courageous decision to donate her organs and since then he has become a huge advocate for organ donation.
Gase’s car will also feature a photo of Jonathan “Mr. NASCAR” Merritt. Merritt was a race car driver himself and raced at many tracks, including the Talladega Short Track. Merritt’s family made the generous decision to donate after he was killed in a tragic accident. Merritt’s family will be attending the race on Saturday, April 27th, cheering on the Donate Life Alabama car, knowing that John’s tragic death helped others through organ, eye and tissue donation.
