BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Magic City Fashion Week returns this fall and the search is on now for designers, models, makeup artists, photographers and more. Magic City Fashion Week Season II is set for October 24th through 27th.
MCFW was founded in 2017 by Daniel Grier and Derek DeAndre. The event cultivates, connects and showcases the artistic community of Birmingham through fashion. MCFW supports emerging designers, as well as creating a platform for models, photographers, beauty industry professionals and more.
Another goal of Magic City Fashion Week is to promote diversity and inclusion in the Birmingham fashion community, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, size, religion, and socio-economic status. You can read more about that goal in an open letter by the co-founders to the city of Birmingham here.
MCFW also partners with Birmingham AIDS Outreach to raise awareness and educate people on the importance of knowing your HIV status. Last year, over 1400 people attended events and more than 100 were tested for HIV. MCFW also highlighted 15 different local venues throughout Birmingham. Four runway shows were also held during the week in partnership with Ensley Entertainment District, Tres’ Fine Dressing at Cotton’s, Belk and Macy’s.
Applications for Emerging Designers, Bloggers & Influencers are open until August 22nd. Photographers and videographers can apply now through September 30th. Hair and Makeup Artists, Volunteers and Vendors are also encouraged to apply now.
