American Village plans “A Salute to Our Veterans” for Memorial Day

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (WIAT) — This Memorial Day, American Village is planning A Salute to Our Veterans, featuring a full day of family events and more to honor those who have served. 

A Salute to Our Veterans begins at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28th. The day of remembrance includes tributes to America’s veterans and active military. The program will take place in Liberty Hall. This year’s American Village Above and Beyond Award will be given to Mr. Robert M. Lightfoot, Jr. for Outstanding Service and Patriotism. Lightfoot was the Director of Marshall Space Flight Center and is currently the NASA Acting Administrator.

There will also be military service songs and veterans recognition by the Montevallo Community Chorale. Eliza Hamilton (Rebecca Evans) will also perform “If the World Could See You as I Do” with a Salute to the Generations to follow. 

Kids can take part in hands-on children’s activities like History Hopscotch, Bean Bag Toss, Giant Jenga, Hula Hoop and other Colonial Games on the Green. Historical vignettes including Patrick Henry: Trumpet of the Revolution, drilling with the Continental Army, and other American Village fun will be offered until 3 p.m. 

Food vendors will be on site with Polish sausage, steak sandwiches, hamburgers, bbq, corn dogs, ribbon fries on a stick, lemonade, tea, water, soft drinks, funnel cakes, and shaved ice.
