HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving an off-duty Hoover Police officer.
According to Lt. Jon Riley with SBI, Hoover Police and Fire responded to the 2300 block of Village Center Street to a report of a person shot around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
Officers located a 31-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the arm. She was transported to UAB hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.
Investigators said the caller was an off-duty HPD officer and reported he and his spouse were involved in a domestic inceident and wrestling over a handgun when it discharged.
The man was detained by HPD until deputies with the Jefferson Couny Sheriff’s Office responded to secure thre scene.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation. Riley said the officer is being questioned by SBI agents.
