Alabamians cross Tennessee state line to purchase Powerball tickets

Local News

ARDMORE, Tenn. (WIAT)– A Powerball drawing for $550 million comes up Wednesday, March 19.

Tuesday, Alabamians were crossing the Tennessee state line to pick up their tickets.

The State Line Jackpots Lottery store sits on the Tennessee side of Main St. The other side of the road is Alabama territory.

For some, they only travel a few miles, or even across the street, to grab a few lottery tickets.

Others travel from all over the state to Ardmore.

Ardmore Exchange sits just off I-65 once you crossover into Tennessee.

Around lunchtime Tuesday, 15 cars were in the parking the lottery store’s parking lot. Only two tags hailed from the Volunteer State.

People were weighing in on whether Alabama should have a lottery throughout the day.

You can watch the reactions from both the State Line lottery store and the Ardmore Exchange.

Also Tuesday, Alabama Senator Jim Mclendon presented two proposed lottery bills to the legislature.

You can watch that presentation here.

CBS 42 would like to know your thoughts on whether or not Alabama should adopt a lottery, and whether you’ll be traveling into another state for a chance to win the Powerball. Share this article with your thoughts!
