BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama Power says it is closing 40 offices across the state. That’s nearly half of their offices for they currently have 86 in Alabama. Officials say many customers prefer to pay electronically and through other authorized payment locations.
Alabama Power spokesperson Beth Thomas said on Saturday, “More of our customers pay their bills and manage their accounts electronically and electronic payments are our fastest growing payment channels.”
Customers can set up autoplay online to pay their bills automatically, they can call in to pay or pay in-person at an authorized location such as Walmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Fred’s and Piggly Wiggly. You can find an authorized location on Alabama Power’s website.
Several of the offices closing are in our area, including Columbiana, Gardendale, Leeds and Carbon Hill. The selected offices are expected to close by August 30.
