ATHENS, Ala. (AP) — Five Alabama inmates are facing charges stemming from the discovery of methamphetamine in a county jail.

News outlets report Friday that women in the group at the Limestone County Jail are charged with either possessing methamphetamine or conspiring to commit an unlawful act involving contraband.

The Limestone County Sheriff says a large bag of meth was discovered inside one of the women’s jail cell and other bags containing meth residue were found in common areas of the jail in February.

Following a monthslong investigation, the women were formally indicted by a county grand jury.
