JEFFERSON CO., Ala. (WIAT) — Police are investigating after 21 cars were broken into at the Woodbrook Apartments in Gardendale and Fultondale.
The break-ins happened late Tuesday night.
According to Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker, the apartment complex is split between Gardendale and Fultondale jurisdictions. He says 11 of the cars that were broken into were on the Gardendale side, and the other 10 were on the Fultondale side.
Fultondale Police Chief David Smith says Fultondale and Gardendale detectives are working together to try to determine who the culprits are. He says they continue to encourage residents to remove valuables from vehicles and take them inside, especially guns.
At least one gun was reported stolen in the break-ins.
Chief Smith tells us they are also working with several other agencies who are also currently investigating car break-ins. The agencies are comparing notes to see if any of the break-ins are related.
There are no suspects in custody at this time, but Gardendale PD says a possible suspect was seen leaving the scene in a dark-colored Tahoe.
