2 people dead after small plane crash in Louisiana

ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA. (CBS & KLFY) – Two people are dead after a small plane crashed on Wednesday.

According to authorities, it happened on Basin Levee Road in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.

The aircraft, which appears to be an ultralight, reportedly crashed on the levee of the Atchafalaya River on Spillway Levee Road in St. Landry Parish near the St. Martin Parish line. St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz confirmed the fatalities this afternoon. 

Guidroz and FAA officials are expected to be on the scene. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
