2 Birmingham Police officers, driver hospitalized after pursuit ends in crash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two Birmingham Police officers and a motorist were hospitalized after a police pursuit ended in a crash Friday night.

Around 8 p.m., officers spotted a car on Lomb Avenue and Tuscaloosa Avenue matching the description of a stolen car out of Huntsville. They attempted to stop the driver, who then sped off, leading them on a chase. The driver ran a red light at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Dennison Avenue, causing the police car to crash into another woman’s car.

Two officers were inside the car at the time of the crash. Both officers and the woman inside the other car were transported to UAB Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The suspect was not apprehended.
