10 dogs seized in Homewood animal cruelty investigation

Local News

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — Homewood animal control found 10 malnourished dogs at an abandoned home on Wednesday.

On October 3, the Homewood Police Department served a search warrant in the 1500 block of Beckham Drive in response to a complaint received about several dogs being abandoned at a residence, according to Sgt. John Carr.

Homewood Animal Control found six dogs in the backyard in extremely poor health and their drinking water was contaminated. Officers reported they also located four more dogs inside of the residence in poor health and the home was not in a livable condition.

All 10 dogs were taken to Vulcan Animal Clinic for treatment and will remain there until the case is closed.

Vulcan Animal Clinic tells CBS 42, once the investigation is complete and the dogs are in good health they will be available for adoption.

At this time, Homewood Animal Control is working to locate the owner of the residence. Officers report it looks like the owner moved out of state and abandoned his residence in Homewood. They are in the process of filing animal cruelty charges.
