BIBB COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – One person was killed in an explosion at Brent Industries in Bibb County Wednesday afternoon, according to Brent police. The remains have not yet been identified.

Three other people were injured in the explosion. One person was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital and two were transported to a nearby hospital.

Kevin Lawrence with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the explosion happened at Brent Industries on South Scottsville Road.

First responders from across Alabama came to help battle the blaze, as chemical explosions erupted throughout the afternoon.

Brent Industries makes work gloves out of recycled textiles, using mineral spirits, a flammable chemical, as part of the process.

Brent’s Chief of Police, Terry Nichols, told WIAT 42 News that there were no environmental concerns that should keep neighbors from their homes, and that no nearby evacuations were necessary.

Nichols said the Fire Marshal will investigate what caused the initial explosion.
