BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police continue the investigation into the shooting death of 21-year-old Calvin Foster at the Oak at Springville Apartment Complex Tuesday.

The victim’s mother first found out her son was shot via social media, and then went to the scene and saw what had happened.

“To find out that way my heart bleeds for her over and over because i know that had to be hard for her,” said founder of Parents Against Violence Foundation Carolyn Johnson.

Carolyn Johnson knows the pain of losing a loved one. Her son was killed on the way to a birthday party in 2003. She now helps families cope with loss of a loved one.

She said it is terrible finding out about a violent act against a loved one through social media.

“That person is not thinking about what the family is going through, and what affect it is going to have on the family,” Johnson said. “People can be so insensitive they don’t think about what they are doing.”
