Lee County tornado victims receive extension on tax deadline


LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The IRS is extending the April 15 deadline for Alabama Storm victims and providing other tax relief for those in need. Residents impacted in Lee County now have until July 31 of this year to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period.

Eligible taxpayers will also have until July 31 to make 2018 IRA contributions.

On their official announcement, the IRS, states, 

ALABAMA — Victims of the severe storms, tornadoes, and straight-line winds that took place on March 3, 2019 in Alabama may qualify for tax relief from the Internal Revenue Service.

The President has declared that a major disaster occurred in the State of Alabama. Following the recent disaster declaration for individual assistance issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the IRS announced today that affected taxpayers in certain areas will receive tax relief.

Individuals who reside or have a business in Lee County may qualify for tax relief.
