Intentional Fire Concerning Community

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, ATF stated the apartment fire in Lakeview was set intentionally.

The structure fire that destroyed an apartment building and a law office in the Lakeview district and injured a firefighter in the line of duty last Thursday, September 27, is under investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

ATF says they have gathered enough information to determine this was an incendiary fire, meaning it was designed to cause fires. They said, experts ruled out every accidental cause that could have started this fire.

The Metropolitan complex that included residents who lived there were displaced because of this apartment fire.

While the investigation is still underway, Fire Marshal for Birmingham, Tom White, stated in the press conference that they wanted to be careful before ruling out any possible causes. At this time, there are still searching for a suspect in this case. ATF is working with Crime Stoppers and each offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this investigation.
