BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an 18-year-old man following a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash Friday morning.
According to authorities, Nicholas Maurice Simmons was spotted by deputies in a reported stolen vehicle that had been tied to a string of burglaries.
Simmons then led deputies on a chase that ended when the stolen vehicle wrecked near the Zion City Community.
JCSO and Birmingham police then set up a perimeter that boxed Simmons in a small area as K9 units arrived.
The K9s found Simmons at a car wash where he was attempting to change clothes. He was arrested and charged with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, receiving stolen property and unlawfully carrying a pistol.
Simmons was placed in jail on a $34,000 bond. Two other men who attempted to help Simmons escaped were also arrested and charged with interfering with government operations.
