The International World Games Association announced the set of sports that will be participating in the 2021 World Games on Monday.
Two sports are returning to the competition: racquetball, which was last played in 2013, and softball, which was last played in 1985. The rest of the 30 sports contain many that were held in the first-ever World Games, which was the last time it was held in the United States back in 1981.

“This is an exciting time as we learn more about the sports that will be part of The World Games Birmingham 2021. They are a combination of familiar sports and a few lesser-known ones that many people will come to love,” Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin stated in a release from the International World Games Association. “As we prepare to host the world in 2021, we also have a great opportunity to learn more about the incredible athletes and competition heading to our city. We’ll be ready.”
There are 3,600 athletes from 100 countries set to descend on Birmingham for the games, which will take place between July 15-25, 2021.
