Injured IHOP employee shoots attacker to defend others

News

After reviewing evidence and witness statements, Huntsville Police have released more information on the shooting incident Wednesday night at the IHOP restaurant on Drake Ave. in Huntsville.

Lt. Michael Johnson, HPD Public Information Officer, says:

“We have reviewed more evidence and witness statements and can release more information that we believe will shed light on this incident. The two deceased males are: IHOP employee 56-year-old Roy Brown and customer 25-year-old Roderick Turner. They are the two deceased gun shot victims. There is a third unnamed IHOP employee who was also wounded from gunfire.

“Turner was a customer who came to the business to pick up a carry out order. He became disruptive and loud regarding the service at the business, which lead to a verbal, then physical altercation between [he and] another IHOP employee. After the physical altercation he [Turner] pulled out a handgun and started firing at employees, striking Roy Brown, Sr. and the unnamed employee. The unnamed employee that became wounded then pulled a handgun and shot the customer-shooter in self-defense of others. Both Brown and Turner died at the scene.

“Two handguns were recovered from the scene. The unnamed employee who was injured during the shooting and fired back at the customer-shooter was transported to the hospital and remains in stable condition.

“At this time there does not appear to be any arrests that will be made in this case, however it will be turned over to a Grand Jury for review as is customary in similar circumstances.”
