How the money to Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is helping

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) is organizing events all month long in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

Beth Davis, the executive director at BCRFA, said the money goes to research being done at UAB and helping local patients.

“Not everyone’s breast cancer is the same, so what’s going on in research and treatment right now is they’re trying to identify what your cancer looks like and the best program for treatment for you,” said Davis. “It’s called precision medicine and doing immunotherapy and helping your body fight the cancer itself and then they’re looking at new drugs and looking at new diagnostic tools so we are winning this battle, and it’s being done right here in Birmingham,” said Davis.

Davis said BCRFA started back in 1996 and has raised $7.7 million in breast cancer research to UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

They are selling T-shirts to go towards research.
