Hoover restaurant hopes to capitalize on LSU-Alabama rivalry

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — When you walk through the front door of the Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill in Hoover, one of the first things you see is a big LSU flag hanging from the wall above a row of booths. If you eat there on a fall Saturday, you’ll meet lots of Tiger fans.

The restaurant is a haven for LSU faithful in the Birmingham area often hosts watch parties for the Birmingham chapter of the LSU Alumni Association. It’s sure to be packed this weekend as the No. 4 Tigers host No. 1 Alabama.

“It’s one of our most fun weeks,” Jenna Hosemann, Cajun Steamer marketing and brand manager, said. “We have a lot of people, lot of LSU fans, lot of Alabama fans, have a little smack talk going on at the bar. But it’s always friendly… and it’s a really fun time for this whole company.”

It’s a big opportunity for the restaurant, too, and they hope to capitalize on it. They’re offering 15-percent off during the game, and they recently updated their menu. It features new items like buffalo oysters, a spicy tuna burger, a muffaletta and Redfish Rockefeller.

“It’s incredible,” Hosemann said. “There’s a lot of love put into this menu. It’s just some good Louisiana cooking, for sure.”

The Tide and Tigers kick off Saturday at 7 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Alabama is a 14.5-point favorite.
