HIV Prevention: BirminGLAM Style

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A consortium of groups who provide services to people in Birmingham affected by HIV/AIDS is getting ready for the red carpet.

The HIV Prevention Network is presenting BirminGlam 2016 as a fashion show to raise money for HIV testing and education.  Birmingham AIDS Outreach, Alethia House, the 1917 Clinic and AIDS Alabama are all selling tickets for the event which is on September 11.

“This event will fund the effort towards World AIDS Day,” said Shyla K. Campbell with The 1917 Clinic and HIV Prevention Network. “The majority of events are free, we just wanted to make sure we are able to do both, educate and do HIV testing for the community.”

The Red Carpet begins at 5 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium, and the fashion show starts at 6.  Tickets are $20 and can be found on Eventbrite.  Six local boutiques and designers will be featured:  Arielle Inc, Willie Shank, ECHT Clothing, Paul Anthony, Shapely Louise, and Couture Closet.

BirminGLAM 2016 will feature and HIV testing lounge, a GLAM vendor market place and nice swag bags.

Executive Producer Perry Varner with Perry Varner Designs has put together an all-star group of celebrities in the Birmingham’s fashion world to make appearances: Celebrity Stylist/Reality Star Ryan Christopher, Makeup Artist Nadia Tellis with music by DJ Chocolate, and Yosmein Starr.
