High-speed chase starting in Fort Payne ends with Georgia officer being run over

We are learning more today about a high speed police chase that ended with an officer being run over.

It started in Fort Payne yesterday after a call about a suspicious truck and ended in a crash in Trenton, Georgia. The crash is shown in the video above, which was given to us courtesy of Hailey Poe.

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office says Major Tommy Bradford was run over by the truck while he was putting down spike strips. In a Facebook post, he says, “Our Major selflessly put his life on the line to try to stop the vehicle, who was traveling in excess of 90mph, from making it to downtown Trenton, and potentially harming an innocent bystander. Please continue to pray for him, his family, and our department.”

In a press conference, they said he lost one leg, has a cracked pelvis, and other injuries, but his family says he is in good spirits.

The driver of the truck was 35-year-old Laura Wooten of Dekalb County.

She is now in custody and is being questioned.
