BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) Alabama Senator Doug Jones along with Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo the Director of Infectious Disease at UAB is set to discuss the spread of COVID-19, the new symptom tracker from UAB the recently passed relief legislation.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, the state now has over 1,189 confirmed cases, 32 deaths confirmed and 17 died from the illness.
During the press conference, Alabama Senator Doug Jones says he believes the state should issue a statewide stay-home order. States surrounding Alabama, such as Georgia, Florida and Mississippi have already issued a statewide stay-home order to help limit the spread of the coronavirus.
According to Health Officials, the number of reported deaths in Alabama on Thursday climbed to more than 30.
State offiicals report that Alabama had received nearly 75,000 unemployment claims in one week related to the virus. According to the Associated Press, Montgomery County disclosed that more than 5,000 medical masks received from the national stockpile were dry rotted.
