Health Minute: Movement and The Adenovirus

(WIAT) — Is it really the flu?
Medical experts say common symptoms associated with the flu may actually be another virus.

If you experience symptoms like a runny nose, sore throat, breathing problems and headache you may think it is the flu, but it could be another family of viruses known as adenoviruses. The viruses can lead to pneumonia, and in some extreme and very rare cases, death. Most adenovirus infections are mild.

If you do get sick, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says symptoms typically last about 10 days.

Are you moving enough?

Getting out of your chair and moving around for 30 minutes reduces your risk of early death by as much as 35 percent. Researchers in New York analyzed 8,000 older and middle-aged adults’ movement data. The data showed moderate to vigorous activity decreased early death by 35 percent, while less intense movement reduced the risk 17 percent.
