Gadsden resident charged in alleged sex abuse of a child

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Gadsden resident is in the Etowah County Detention Center after he was arrested and charged in connection to sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

33-year-old Carlos De Jesus who lives in Gadsden, was arrested October 12 and is charged with one count of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy, one count sex abuse of a child less than 12 and incest; all are felonies, according to Investigator Brandi Fuller.

Authorities report, De Jesus allegedly raped and sexually abused a 13-year-old victim multiple times beginning when the victim was 7 years old. A school employee reported the incidents on October 2.

At this time, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office reports De Jesus is being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $300,000 cash bond. The sheriff’s office reports, he is a legal citizen of Mexico, not of the U.S. As a condition of the bond, De Jesus is not allowed any contact with the victim or the victim’s family and no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 years old.
