BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Former Alabama football player Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough is back with a new book all fans can enjoy. “Victory in the Game of Life: A Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete’s Journey” goes inside how certain aspects of your life translate to a championship winning philosophy.

Dr. McCollough served as the Crimson Tide’s center under Coach Bear Bryant from 1962 to 1964. He went on to become a distinguished alumnus, personal physician and confidant of Coach Bryant. McCollough was awarded the 2017 Bryant Award and addresses the criteria considered by the University of Alabama’s National Alumni Association in the selection process for award recipients.

The list of Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award recipients is a who’s who of Alabama athletics. It’s also awarded to those who achieved success in various other fields. Some recipients succeeded while living with physical challenges or challenges imposed by society.

Readers will be able to understand how their character, contributing to society, professional achievements and service to the community can lead to  success both on and off the field. They’ll also understand how Coach Nick Saban’s “process” is a modern-day reflection of Coach Bryant’s “winning theory and methodology.”

“Victory in the Game of Life” is available now at several stores across the state. You can find it in Gulf Shores at the McCollough Institute for Appearance and Health on Cypress Bend Drive. It’s also available at the University Supply Store on Campus Drive West on the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa.

Dr. McCollough will also hold book signing events. He’ll be at the Alabama Booksmith in Homewood from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 7th. You can also find him at the Paul W. Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, September 8th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dr. McCollough will hold another event at Page & Palette in Fairhope starting at 6 p.m.
