Fire crews battling 20-acre wildfire in Jefferson County

News

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Fire crews are battling a wildfire in a forest that spreads across 20 to 30 acres.

Around noon, Mt. Olive Fire Department responded to a call of a fire in the woods off of Mary Buckelew Parkway. The fire is about one mile into the woods and not visible from the outside. Since then, crews have been battling to control the flames, the fire department says.

In efforts to contain the destruction, the Alabama Forestry Commission is cutting a line of trees around all sides of the fire. At this time, fire and rescue crews are not sure how the fire started.
