Fatal accident in Cullman County shuts down I 65 South


CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim as Carl Curry, 54, of Hanceville. According to trooper Curtis Summerville, the victim was changing the tire on the broken-down 18-wheeler when another rig sideswiped the broken-down truck, running Curry over. There is no word on charges yet, but the interstate will be reopened by 9 p.m. 

ORIGINAL: Interstate 65 southbound is shutdown in Cullman County because of a fatal accident.

According to Alabama State Troopers, an 18-wheeler was broken down on the shoulder of the interstate near mile marker 305.

A service truck arrived to repair the truck. While a mechanic was working on the tractor trailer, another 18-wheeler struck the service truck, killing the mechanic.

The interstate is closed at the 305 mile marker and will be closed for some time.
