VANCE, Ala. (WIAT) — A Greensboro family is grieving the loss of their daughter.

Shanina Smith, 27, was murdered while working on the job at an automotive supplier plant Sunday night in Tuscaloosa County.

Mother Regina Smith said she is devastated.

“And I am going to miss her and I love her. I just want to know why I haven’t gotten an answer yet as to why this happened to her,” Smith said.

The shooting happened at the Lear Corporation plant in Vance late Sunday night.

Investigators from Tuscaloosa Violent crimes unit claim Smith was allegedly shot multiple times allegedly by her co-worker Angela Mayo, 28.

After the shooting, Mayo turned herself in to police and was charged with murder. Authorities have not said what the motive was for the shooting.

“But I want her to be punished to get the penalty of death,” Regina said. “I have no mercy for her because she had no business killing my child.”

Regina Smith was surrounded by many family members all day Monday in Greensboro.

“I am just going to put the good Lord in front, and pray and keep my head up and try to move on,” she said. “But I know it’s going to be hard for us. We love Shanina. She was just as sweet as she could be, she was sweet the sweetest little girl I raised.”

Shanina Smith was engaged to be married and has a 3-year-old son.
