PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Family and friends gathered in Shelby County to pay tribute to the life of a teenager who died Friday. William Neff, 19, died as a result of his injuries after being hit in the head with a baseball bat during a fight at a swimming spot called The Slab earlier this week. A vigil was held at the Warehouse 31 haunted house, which is where Neff worked. Neff’s friends couldn’t think of a better place to hold the ceremony. They gathered old photos of Neff and thought about all the good times they had with him. They told WIAT 42 that his death has hit them pretty hard.
“You know, we’re family here at Warehouse 31, we pitch a family atmosphere to everyone here that’s behind the scenes. Just like with a movie or whatever kind of production you are going to have, you get to know each other and it all falls in together, and make it happen, it’s definitely the loss of a family member,” says Warehouse 31 coordinator, John Hancock.
There has been no word so far on funeral arrangements for William Neff.
In the meantime, the person charged in his death is still behind bars. Eric Blackerby, 16, is charged as an adult with murder. His charge was upgraded from assault after Neff passed away Friday.
