Families seek shelter in Clanton

Residents were able to seek refuge at Clanton City Hall during Thursday’s severe weather event. Sirens went off at 6:58 pm and more than 40 residents packed the storm shelter.

“The shelter can hold up to 300 people,” says Clanton Mayor Billy Driver. Other storm shelters were available throughout the night such as City Park, West End, Lomax, and Enterprise.

There were no reports of injuries or power outages.

“The only potential weather-related incident was an 18 wheeler in the ditch on I65 at the 200-mile marker. There were no injuries, and it is cleared up,” says Chilton County 911 Director Dan Wright.

People began leaving the storm shelter around 8:15 pm.  The Chilton County School district has canceled all classes for Friday, April 19th.
