Driver dies, multiple children injured in school bus crash


BENTON COUNTY, MS – (WIAT & WATN) We are following breaking news of a deadly bus crash investigation. Mississippi Authorities say a school bus driver has died in the crash and multiple children have been injured.

According to the Mississippi State Troopers, the crash happened in Benton County, Mississippi around 6:48 a.m along Highway 72, west of Walnut. Officials say at least 7 children were hurt in the crash.

Emergency Officials in Benton County says the driver suffered a medical emergency, which may have caused the accident. The bus appears to have rolled, landing on the side of the road.

A medical helicopter airlifted three of the seven injured children to the hospital. The other four injured children were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The bus driver has been identified as Chester Cole according to the Benton County School Superintendent.

This is an ongoing investigation.
