Deadly shooting at Birmingham nightclub; UPDATE: Victims Identified

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —UPDATE 2:  The following has been released by the Birmingham Police Department:

Officers from the South Precinct responded to 3813 Richard Arrington Junior Boulevard North to investigate a report of multiple shots fired at the location. Officers arrived and located the first victim lying on the ground unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

The first victim has been identified as: LaQuintin Deon Wright, B/M, 29, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers also learned that a second victim was struck by gunfire and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment by a private vehicle. Investigators later learned that the victim had succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The second victim has been identified as: JaGorren Jimmie Kelly, B/M, 33, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Investigators learned that a large crowd was exiting the club when multiple shooters began to fire at each other. No additional injuries were reported during the shooting. No suspects are in custody. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE: According to the Jefferson County Coroner Johnny Long, the second victim in this morning’s shooting died in surgery. Both names of the victims are withheld at this time until family members are contacted.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Birmingham nightclub is once again the scene of a deadly shooting. Police say around three o’clock this morning two people were shot at the GM Lounge on Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North. Paramedics pronounced one of them dead at the scene.

Police say a second person showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police radio traffic indicated that a person was taken directly into surgery. Police have not released details about the shooting. This is the same nightclub where four people were shot in December of 2016. One of them died in that shooting.
