ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT)– Acton Bowen pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease of defect, according to new court documents.
The documents filed on Tuesday, September 10, come after sexual assault charges were filed against the youth evangelist in April 2018 in Etowah County, reported by the Etowah County PIO.
The Etowah County charges against Bowen allege sex crimes against four boys between the ages of 12 and 17 over a period of many years, according to a release from the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition, his initial arrest in Hoover was on charges of Sodomy 2nd Degree, Enticing a Child to Enter a Vehicle, House etc. for Immoral Purposes, and Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, according to Hoover Police.
Bowen’s trial is set to start on May 20, 2019.
