Woman allegedly sexually assaulted at gunpoint; suspect charged with rape

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- A 25-year-old man was arrested on sexual assault charges after a female victim told police she was held at gunpoint and assaulted by the suspect. 

Tuscaloosa Police received a call from a 25-year-old woman shortly after midnight on Tuesday. She told authorities that Timothy Demetris Hopkins had allegedly held her at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her at a residence in the 2700 block of 21st Street. 

The victim gave officers a description of Hopkins and police located him near the residence. According to Tuscaloosa Police, Hopkins had a handgun in his possession. 

The victim was taken to DCH Medical Center for examination. After interviewing both the victim and the suspect, police charged Hopkins with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol. 

Hopkins is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $135,000 bond.
