LIPSCOMB, Ala. (WIAT) — Authorities have identified the man who was found dead and covered with garbage bags Wednesday afternoon.

Bill Yates with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man’s identity as 63-year-old Fredrick O’Neal Harris.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the area of Brewer Drive and 15th Street in Lipscomb after a FedEx driver discovered what appeared to be a man’s body inside garbage bags, Chief Mareshah Moses said.

The man’s body was covered in two garbage bags covering his head and his lower body, police report.

The feet were bound with tape, the head taped also, and one visible injury to the head. At this time, investigators have not released the identity of the victim. Police suspect possible foul play as the investigation continues.

According to Chief Moses, the body could have been lying there for at least eight hours.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is now handling the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777.
