BIRMINGHAM – 31-year-old Stacie Marie Gardner, a former corrections officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, has been charged accepting a bribe and providing a cell phone to an inmate.

The indictment alleges that Gardner smuggled contraband into the prison, and in exchange for a phone, received $1,474 sent via Western Union in January of 2015.

The maximum penalty for receipt of a bribe by a public official is 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The maximum penalty for providing contraband to a federal prisoner is one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
