BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (6/10/19): The suspect in connection to a homicide investigation has been identified as Don Mobley, 51, of Birmingham, Alabama. He is currently in custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
Officers found the victim, 48 -year-old Melvin Mobley, inside the residence unresponsive in a bedroom after there was a report of an assault. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and found that Melvin had succumbed to his injury. Jefferson County Coroner showed up to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Original Story: A homicide investigation is underway in East Birmingham following a domestic dispute that occurred early Saturday.
According to Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams, the incident occurred around 12:33 a.m. in the 4400 block of 46th Street North. East Precinct officers were called to a home in that area in response to an assault call and found a male victim unresponsive in a bedroom.
Sgt. Williams said it appears the altercation was related to a domestic dispute.
The Jefferson County Coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A suspect was taken into custody; however, the names of the victim and suspect have not yet been publicly released.
The victim’s identity will be released after immediate family members are notified.
