PELL CITY, Ala. (WIAT) — Pell City police received reports of a 2007 Dodge Ram stolen from the St. Clair County Courthouse.
An officer attempted to stop the truck, but the suspect drove off. Police began a car chase began around 11:21 a.m. after a call went out that the suspect had tried to run over two deputies at the courthouse.
Pell City police said that they made contact with the vehicle at Highway 78 and Pleasant Valley Road and attempted to stop the vehicle. The St. Clair County Joint Air Support Unit was also called in.
The suspect accelerated and avoided three spike strips and fled at speeds over 100 miles per hour at times during the pursuit, police said.
The chase ended near the Georgia state line when the suspect ran over spikes placed in the road by the Heflin police.
St. Clair County took the suspect, Jeremy R. McCartney, into custody. He faces charges in both Pell City and St. Clair County, and possibly additional cities.
Police identified the suspect as Jeremy Ray McCartney of Blountsville. He is charged with two counts of Reckless Endangerment, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Attempting to Elude.
