BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — One person is dead after they were shot in a vehicle Saturday afternoon in Birmingham.
According to Birmingham Police Department public information officer Truman Fitzgerald, at around 3:20 p.m., officers were dispatched on a report of a traffic accident to the 2000 block of Warrior Road. Police received a second call about the driver of one of the wrecked vehicles being shot.
Officers at the scene found a black sedan had collided with a construction fence at a set of abandoned apartments. Upon further investigation, officers observed the driver of the black sedan, Micah Honor, 24, of Birmingham, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced him dead.
The preliminary investigation has revealed an unknown suspect fired shots into the victim’s vehicle. After being shot, the victim drove onto Warrior Road, where his vehicle collided with the second vehicle. The occupants of the second vehicle did not suffer from any injuries.
Fitzgerald said the BPD believes the shooting was targeted. There is no one in custody.
