Police bust major marijuana grow operation at Gardendale home

GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — Adamsville police made a major marijuana bust early Tuesday morning.

Detective sergeant Chris Shaw says a tip helped lead them to the grow operation in Gardendale Tuesday morning. Marijuana plants and buds were seized from a home on Mountain Drive around 6 a.m.

Police say the operation was in full swing when they executed a search warrant at the house.

“This operation’s been going for a while,” Shaw explained. “Things were staged out about every 15 days. Plants from babies to mature.”

One person was taken into custody and charged. Police say Edwin Bennefield was arrested and charged with drug paraphernalia and posession of marijuana in the first degree. Police say he lives in the 2200 block of Mountain Drive.
