BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department reported Saturday that a man was shot at the 2600 block of Avenue South.

Authorities say that the shooting happened around 11:15 a.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Albert Griffin of Birmingham.

The preliminary investigation says that Griffin was inside his apartment when the suspect entered the bedroom and shot Griffin. Authorities say that they may have been acquaintances. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Authorities say that there is no suspect in custody at this time.
