Neighbor helps sheriff’s deputies catch burglary suspect


CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 1500 block of Bobolink Lane in Center Point to investigate a burglary in progress around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The caller said he could see a male suspect coming out of his neighbor’s home, carrying a television into a wooded area behind the house. The caller stayed on the line with dispatch and gave detailed accounts of the burglar’s activity, including a suspect description and the fact he had taken off a hoodie he had been wearing.

The caller directed deputies directly to the suspect, after discovering that the suspect had forced his way into the home and stolen the television as the caller stated. The stolen property was returned to the homeowner.

Cordlin Garrett, 23 of Center Point, was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree and theft of property in the second degree. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he posted his $7,500 bond and was released.
