Mother and son accused of bank robbery in Gardendale

GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — At 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a white male entered the Cadence Bank at 2250 Mt. Olive Road. According to Gardendale police, he approached the bank teller and demanded that she fill a bag of money from her drawer. She complied with the man, and he left the bank in a white SUV driven by a white female. No one was injured.

Gardendale police officers followed the vehicle on I-65 N and pursued it until it reached Robert E. Lee Drive, a dead end road. The male suspect tried to flee on foot, but was captured by authorities.

An undetermined amount of cash was seized from the suspects, who have been identified as 65-year-old Linda Sue Morgan and her son, 43-year-old Billy Earl Coleman.

Morgan was charged with robbery in the first degree and attempting to elude a police officer. Her bond is set at $25,300. Coleman was charged with robbery in the first degree, attempting to elude a police officer, and resisting arrest. His bond is set at $25,600.

They will both be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
