Man shot, killed in drive-by shooting in southwest Birmingham


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are investigating a homicide after one man was killed in southwest Birmingham. 

Around 6:15 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Woodland Avenue Southwest. Officers arrived to find a victim, later identified as Michael Toney Jr., 23, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was sent to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, police report.

Investigators learned that the suspected shooters drove past the area in a dark-colored vehicle and began to fire shots at the home and several vehicles. Toney was struck by gunfire as he exited the home during the gunfire.

No suspects are in custody at this time.
