BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Jury selection is underway for the man accused of shooting and killing a 21-year-old during a robbery at Jack’s restaurant in Pleasant Grove back in January of 2016.

Rodrick King was 19 at the time of the incident. He is accused of shooting and killing Ashton Blake Robert during a robbery at the Jack’s on Park Road.

The state is seeking the death penalty for King. Police report there was no confrontation, no struggle over money or anything. They say the investigation determined this was just a senseless act of violence. King is also facing charges of robbing a Burger King in Fairfield and a Papa Murphy’s in Hueytown.

King is being charged with capital murder.
