Inmate fatally stabbed in Elmore County prison

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating a stabbing at the Station Correctional Facility in Elmore County that left one inmate dead. 

60-year-old Barry Tyrone Reynolds was found around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning suffering from a stab wound in one of the prison dorms. Reynolds was taken to the facility's infirmary where he later died from his injuries. 

18-year-old inmate Michael Williams is a suspect in the stabbing and will be charged with Reynolds' death. 

Williams was sentenced to 25 years on an attempted murder charge in Mobile County in 2017. Reynolds was serving a 5-year sentence for distributing a controlled substance in Mobile County. 

Authorities found the makeshift weapon used in the stabbing. Officials do not know the circumstances leading up to the stabbing at this time.
