BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Friday evening.
According to the BPD, officers were dispatched to a person shot call at 4th Avenue Southwest at around 6:55 p.m.
They arrived and found three adult men who were shot at the scene. They were transported to UAB Hospital, where Rahkeem Vanderbilt, 32, of Birmingham died on arrival. The remaining two victims received life-threatening and non-life-threatening injuries respectively.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victims were gathered near the 100 block of 4th Avenue Southwest when the perpetrator fired shots at the group.
Shortly after the investigation began, a fourth gunshot victim was also found in the 500 block of Sixth Avenue South. They received non-life-threatening injuries and are not believed to be involved in the Goldwire Street shooting.
BPD currently has no one in custody and asks anyone with information to call BPD or CrimeStoppers.
