Helena Police arrest sex offender on multiple charges

HELENA, Ala. (WIAT) — Willis Sidnay Dwayne Spradlin was taken into custody by the Heleana Police Department and charged with one county of adult sex offender in a prohibited residence and two counts of failing to register as a sex offender.

Spradlin had been occupying a residence in the 100 block of Hickory Point Drive in Helena, which backs up to Gospel Light Baptist Church. The Church operates a full-time daycare facility and the school has between 40 and 60 students.

Spradlin was transported by Helena Police and booked for the above charges. He had just been released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on the previous day for violation of the Alabama sex offender laws there as well.

The Helena Police Department released the following statement:

The sex offender laws in the state of Alabama are very clear. We will enforce those laws and utilize any resources necessary to see that justice is served. I cannot speak for other cities, but for the most part I believe we all agree, that should a registered sex offender try to avoid us and rest their head at a place that is noncompliant, we take that personal because our number one goal is to protect our citizens and children to the best of our ability.
