Escaped inmate from Alexander City work release center recaptured in Ashville


TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The escaped inmate has been recaptured, ADOC authorities say. Robert Hunt was taken into custody around 11:10 a.m. in a wooded area in Ashville where he surrendered without incident.

He is now facing additional criminal charges for the escape, officials say.

ORIGINAL: Alabama Department of Corrections officials are searching for an inmate who left his assigned job location Tuesday.

According to the ADOC, 33-year-old Robert Alvin Hunt left the Alex City Work Release Center around 10:40 p.m. He was convicted in 2015 on an offense of manufacturing controlled substances.

Hunt is described as 5’11” 185 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark blue t-shirt.
